Culture Shock: editing

After recording my own materials and collecting the free stock footage I needed for the project, it was time to put my film together and edit it. I edit my videos with Clipchamp because I've used it before, it's free, and I didn't have to pay for this programme. In this post I will describe this entire process and my experiences related to it.

Firstly, I had to edit my footage because there was a strong wind during the recording and the sound quality was very poor. To do this, I had to add each video to Clipchamp, then remove the audio using the 'detach audio' option in the top right corner. Then I added the sound recorded using a microphone, which was of much better quality, and matched it to the recording.

After processing all my recordings in this way, I started cutting them and removing parts that weren't needed. I also cutted free footage videos that I downloaded from Pixabay and Pexels because they were too long. In the video below, I also turned off the music and added the sound of rain falling.

When all my materials were ready, it was time for the final edit of my film. I started by selecting 'import media' and uploading my clips and photos.

Next, I added all materials to the timeline. I simply moved the clips into position after clicking the 'add' button on the clip.

After adding all the videos and photos, I used the 'transitions' tab in the menu on the left to set transitions between them. I connected most of the videos using the 'cross fade' transition, but between photos I used 'Wipe right' and 'Spin', which made the transitions seem more natural and smooth.

My next step was adding intro with my project name. I used Clipchamp template 'Glitchy YouTube gaming intro', witch I found in tab templates on the left menu.

I then added Text with the name before each of my characters using the typewriter option.

Finally, I added the credits. After selecting the Text icon on the left-hand menu I chose Credits Roll and I added the correct credits for the film clips and music I had chosen.

When my video was fully edited, I checked again whether all the transitions were good. Then, using the ''Export'' option, I transferred the video in 1080p High Quality. Unfortunately, since I do not have a premium account, I could not choose the 4K option.

Once I finished and downloaded my video to my computer, I added it to my YouTube account and my website. In the next post I will describe it in more detail and summarise my work.
