Culture Shock: Recording

Today I made the first recordings for my project 'Culture Shock'. As I mentioned in earlier posts, this is a short three-minute film in which several DMU students talk about their experiences of coming to study in the UK. Despite the stormy conditions, my film's main characters, Pedro, Artemis, Agata, and Roma, bravely faced the difficulties of recording materials outside.

I even made a simple image sequence in Pixlr E to demonstrate how much fun my mini film crew had recording shots.

Returning to the most important matters, I would like to describe the process of creating recordings. To make shoots, I use my Google Pixel 6a phone, a tripod and a K2-typec2 wireless microphone. For recordings I used the following settings: Resolution - Full HD (1080p); Frames/sec: 30; Video stabilization: reduce camera shake; Speech enhancement: Reduce unwanted noises like wind, traffic and crowds.

The sound quality of the recordings was poor due to the strong wind, so I used an additional wireless microphone to record much better sound. Unfortunately, this will make editing more difficult for me because I will have to remove the original sound from the recordings and replace it with the one recorded with the microphone.

To have more material to work with, I took a few shots with each of my characters speaking. Then I transferred all of the recorded material to my laptop, where I organised and described the recordings to make future processing easier.

In the following posts, I will present further editing of the materials I recorded and the process of creating a film using Clipchamp.
